Grant MacIver was laid to rest at Hills of Calvary Cemetery on December 20, 2023.
Hi, I’m Max, Grant’s older brother. Please accept my apologies for not being present for my brother’s burial due to logistical reasons. I want to thank Pastor Jay, Ms. Allen, and those who gave Grant the dignified burial he so much deserves. It was comforting to learn these last few days that Grant would have many who are near and dear to him in attendance, this is truly a blessing.
Our mom and I agree that it is very appropriate for Grant to be laid to rest in Music City as a musician. I recall Grant at the age of 12, playing the baritone in the middle school band, and playing bass guitar in the church choir. Also, I remember he would take 3 tape recorders, and record different parts of a song on each of them, play it back together and build the song playing all the parts. Going back even a few more years, at our elementary school’s talent show, you could find Grant on stage dancing to Bobby Brown and doing the “running man,” I wish I had that footage now, but I can remember being so amazed of my brother.
Reminiscing and writing this now reinforces the fact that Grant was born to be a musician and entertainer. He certainly lived his “viva” when he was doing what he loved most. Grant’s passion for music has connected him with countless people who share the same love for music. Music enabled Grant to express his emotions. Those of us knew well of Grant’s struggles and supported him when he had enough. We are all instruments of God and God still plays us even if sometimes in life we are out-of-tune.
I’m still processing that Grant’s passing has really happened. A week before I received news of Grant’s passing I was very uneasy and knew something wasn’t right, my assumptions were validated that same week. Grant’s life strikes many chords that will not only continue to vibrate here for us, but also connect us someway with him in eternity. I know how important it is to comfort each other, share, remember and celebrate Grant’s life. Let those you love and care for know how you feel about them because we never know when we will be called home from this pilgrimage here on earth. Thank you for your friendship and love. I love you brother!
Peace be with you all. Yours in Christ, Sincerely,
Max MacIver and Family.
